Still missing bookmarks after the process above?
Sometimes the bugs in Chrome that stopped it syncing are more severe and the simple "nudge" listed above isn't enough.
If the bookmarks you see in Chrome are currently *exactly* what you want (or as close as can be to the ones you want), then you can reset the Google database to blank and upload the bookmarks in Chrome and that should make them an exact copy.
Frequently when Chrome gets into this state, it will have erroneously duplicated bookmarks or folders. In point 2 below, I suggest you check for and remove any duplicates. This is important as it would reduce the amount of data you would be sending to Google and significantly reduces the chances of the same bug happening again tomorrow.
Unfortunately Google don't make this process simple - they provide bookmark syncing to millions of users around the world and they can't allow each user to consume large amounts of their processing power. So they throttle each user and allow them to send a certain number of changes per day back to Google. The process below takes things slowly and checks to see if you hit the throttle. Please don't skip out steps if you've done this before!
The list may look long, but it's just verbose and clear to ensure you make no mistakes and avoid the usual pitfalls.
--> Perform a Backup as detailed above!

- In Chrome, open the options, Personal Stuff and disable the sync by clicking on "disconnect".
- Now in Chrome, check for duplicate bookmarks and/or folders. I suggest you open the bookmark manager and just click around looking for anything that looks suspect. If you see duplicates, delete the offending entries. Remember, you've made a backup so if there are any problems, just re-import the backup and start again.
- Then goto the Google homepage (www.google.com)
- In top right, goto "Account settings" page and login.
- Near the top, is an option to goto "Dashboard". Click on that.
- In there, find the "ChromeSync" option. Click on "stop sync and delete data". You may need to refresh the page a few times and wait for it to say the data has been deleted. VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to reset your data more than once in a 24 hour period or I guarantee you will hit the throttle and really regret it! If you want to reset the data again, just wait a day before trying!
- Once done, in Chrome, re-enable sync, but in the customise/advanced popup, I strongly suggest only ticking "bookmarks" for now. Since your bookmarks are already damaged, trying to make Chrome do more than one thing is asking for further problems. Keep it simple.
- Give it a few minutes - the syncing only starts after you ok the box with the green tick on it.
- This should upload all the bookmarks in Chrome to Google
- You need to see if you've hit the Google throttle. In Chrome, goto the web address "about:sync" (that's two words separated only by a colon).
- Look for the "unsynched count" about half way down the page.
- If the number is greater than zero then your browser is being throttled by Google. Since ChromeMarks can only show you the data on Google's servers, you'll need to wait for this number to drop down to zero before ChromeMarks will have all your data available to show. Stop here and check back in 24 hours on the about:sync page to see where it gets to. Once the number is zero, continue below.
- If the "unsynched count" number is zero, then *all* your bookmarks have been successfully backed up to Google's servers. Excellent!
- In ChromeMarks, you'll need to "reset app to default" as the matching data from Google has completely changed. Go into menu, settings, advanced settings, reset to default.
- Now perform a sync in ChromeMarks and you should get an exact copy.
- Back in Chrome, open the options, Personal Stuff and "customise" the sync - tick all the other things you want to sync as well (i.e. passwords, auto-fill, extensions, etc) and then click Ok.
