Why do you not integrate into app x ?
At the original time of writing (Jan 2012) there were very few Android Browser that could handle the type of structure of Google Chrome Bookmarks. The analytics from CMarks shows that the average user has 54 folders.
The main problem, though, is that many Android Browsers hold their bookmarks in an internal database that no other app is allowed to access anyway. Examples are xScope, Miren, Boat which are all great browsers, but the bookmarks cannot be updated by any other app, so integration would not be possible fullstop even if they could fully support folders.
NOTE that the vast majority of Android users still use the stock Android Browser, so I'm not too sure it would be right to spend a lot of time integrating (e.g. with Boat) when the majority of users would not appreciate or use any of that functionality. Of course, that wouldn't stop my trying if their database was open to other apps.. :-)
With the Mar 2011 release of the full app, experimental integration with the Stock 2.x browser is now available. You can choose to include "dummy" folders or prefix each bookmark's name with the folders it is in. Please note that Android will not allow one app to change the look, style of functionality of another app (*). So I can't magically make your stock browser understand what a "folder" is - all I can do is create or delete bookmarks and fake their names a bit to make them look better.
(*) For example, would you want to download an app that can alter the functionality of the "phone" app such that each number you dial is prefixed by a premium rate number? No. Of course that's a huge security risk. In the same way, I can't change the way the stock browser looks or works either.
SAMSUNG:
Samsung, though, have taken the Stock Android Browser and sprinkled their own special sauce on it. Unfortunately, this means it no longer works with many bookmark apps on the Market, including this one. Until Samsung release the source code for the changes they have made, I can't fix this completely. The app tries it's best to integrate with Samsung Browser, but it's literally a needle/haystack to work out what changes I need to do to make the integration better.
HONEYCOMB DEVICES:
Additionally, Google still have not released the source for Honeycomb and it's looking unlikely they ever will. Unfortunately I really do need the source code - I need to know what formats of data the ContentProvider will accept, how they relate to other pre-existing data and how they will respond. Integration requires several thousand lines of code and is simply not capable without the source code.
ICS DEVICES:
Google have released partial source code, but not the part that does the actual syncing or creation of bookmarks. I need that to understand what formats of data the ContentProvider will accept, how it relates to other pre-existing data and how it will respond. Integration requires several thousand lines of code and is simply not capable without the source code.
